Écarté is a 200 year old card game! It’s similar to Whist or Euchre but with a distinctive card-exchanging phase where players try to improve their hands before trying to take as many tricks as possible.
Écarté was probably first played in Paris gaming houses in the early 19th century. Bystanders used to bet on the outcome of games and give players advice on the cards to play!
There’s no gambling in this version … you just compete against the computer (‘the House’) and see who can win the most rounds.
